DAN FIKE

Dan Fike was an Offensive lineman for the Browns from 1985 to 1992 and a solid, consistent performer on the great teams of the late 1980’s that included 3 AFC Championship games.

Dan is a friend to our North Georgia Browns Backers chapter and has agreed to provide a regular blog providing his insights and opinions to the current team.

Dan still lives in Westlake, OH with his wife Karen and attends every Browns home game. Stay tuned to this blog as we look forward to Danny traveling to Atlanta to attend one of our chapter meetings in Jefferson.

Dan, #69, can be seen in many of the clips from this video highlighting the 1986 Browns season called 'Cleveland Browns - Pandemonium Palace'

Calling all Browns fans, The 2014 season is about to start.  The off season has been anything from boring with front office and coaching changes, to the build up of the draft, great picks in the draft and now training camp. As you are, I am sure, very aware that Johnny Football mania is in full swing in Cleveland these days and rightfully so. He was a vey exciting player in college and we can hope it translates to the NFL?

My opinion on him would be that he sit the bench his first year and learn from Hoyer,  but as you know football is a contact sport and from my own personal experience you're only one play away from being removed from a game and your replacement stepping in, so lets pray that all of our players stay healthy.

Now for my preview of the season and possible win/loss record for our Browns, let's look at the schedule.  In order to make a statement and let the rest of the league know that we are back, this team needs to win 50% of the games against our AFC north opponents, thats first.  Secondly,  we have to beat the Jags, Raiders, Bucs and Panthers.  By my count thats puts us at 8 and 8 which in my opinion would be a very succesfull season.  I would be happy with a 7 and 9 record as well. So thats where I will say our team should end 7 and 9.

OK North Georgia Browns Backers, get together on Sundays and let me hear you in Cleveland.  Your former player Fike the Fierce #69  GO BROWNS!!

Sep 20 - Hey North Georgia Browns backers,  Its a huge weekend here in Cleveland. It's alumni weekend  and we started off with a golf tournament on  Friday, special awards dinner Saturday night for the two inductees into the Brown's legend club and the game on Sunday.
Key's to the game are:  1)can our offense continue running  the ball which will set up the passing game 2) stay in the no  huddle as a change of pace or when we need to score 3) will TE Jordan Cameron be playing. On defense can we get pressure on QB Flacco and stop the run and create turnovers and the one area we must win in is special teams. We have to make the Ravens make long drives with minimal return yards.
It's going to be  great game so get your pizza, wings, burgers and beverages ready and yell for the Brown's.  Dan Fike #69. 1985-1992

Oct 2 - Ok North Georgia Browns Backers, its time to get back to some football! The Tennessee Titans are a formidable opponent. Defensively they rank 5th in total defense and  first in pass defense. Now’s the time for the Browns to step up and be able to control the game on offense. As we saw in the last two games we have to be able to control the clock and finish drives with touchdowns not field goals and we are capable.   I see this being a slug fest because either team losing means for the rest of the season they are in the spoiler role.  Their weakness on offense will be if QB  Jake Locker is able to play with the wrist injury from last week. They have also only scored  6 offensive touchdowns.  Our defense needs to stop the run which we have not been able to do and if so then Locker cant beat us. Lastly our special teams must not allow a big play and when we are kicking for points we cant have bad snaps, holds or blocked kicks.  will be watching. Go Browns. The Fikester

Oct 11 - Hey North Georgia Browns Backers, If you cant get fired up for this weekends game then you're not a football fan. Its Browns vs Steelers. Now lets reflect upon the first game. We lost and that’s the bottom line. Yes we had chances and yes we blew it. For me that’s the way the Steelers games have been since I came to Cleveland in 1985. In a nut shell they are always close and they come down to which team can make the big plays when needed. So it boils down to the basics of football. Blocking , tackling,  running , passing and kicking.

I will be at the game and believe me this will be an incredible experience. Cleveland sports talk shows have been non stop talk about the game. I look forward to a Browns victory on Sunday.  Get your Browns gear on, your burger/wings/pizza in hand and favorite beverage on the table  and lets get ready to rummmmmmble.  Until next weekend,  Fike the Fierce #69

BROWNS!!!

Oct 18 - OK North Georgia Brown's Backers, here's the test. Brown's out of town against an opponent that has not won, with rookie QB, and O-line that's not doing a good job for the rookie and defense that has talent but can't finish the game. I call this a game of wills.  We the Browns can't continue to NOT execute in the first half.   The test is to execute on offense, defense and  special teams How good can this team be? THIS IS THE SHOW ME TEST.  So show me and the rest of the league. Fikester out. I  Will be watching

Nov 1 - Ok North Georgia Browns Backers its time for some football. This weeks opponent has many similarities as the Jacksonville Jaguars except that their defense ranks last. I view this as another of those  trap type games when the opponent has a losing record and where if you don’t play your best you will lose. That’s a fact every week. The Bucs offense can score but if our defense jumps on them early and maintains pressure we should be fine. Offensively I want to see as much of our running backs as possible. RUN THE BALL. Then Hoyer can make great passes for long gains and scores. Thats it. Winning football. Have great one . Fikester out

Nov 15 - Ok  North Georgia Browns Backers, The next game on our schedule is the Houston Texans. This is another one of those trap games when all the factors are aligned in our favor. Even though the Texans record does not show it they are a formidable team. One of the best defensive players in the league JJ Watt is big trouble for every team he faces and will Clowney be able to play and create havoc in our backfield? If our offensive line can handle the defense it will be a big feather in our caps and a victory on the board. Will a change at QB for the Texans with Ryan Mallet hold up under the pressure or will he lay an egg? I will be at the game and try to give some insight as to how the rest of the Browns fans are reacting. Get your grub and beverages ready its going to be a wild one.  The Fikester
